Wild Silk Scarf The forests of East Africa host an amazing resource - the wild silk forest moths. This habitat, however, is struggling to cope with increased logging and clearing for subsistence farming. As a truly sustainable non wood forest product, forest wild silk has the potential to economically out compete these other unsustainable forest uses.
Wild Silk Scarf Some 5,000 forest residents, with the support of ICIPE, are busy trying to realize the conservation and livelihoods potential of wild silk in Kakamega, Mwingi and Arabuko Sokoke forests. Wild silk spent cocoons are hand harvested from the forests and domesticated species silk moths are being farmed.
Wild Silk Scarf Wild and domestically farmed spent silk cocoons are sold to ICIPE, who process them into high quality yarn and final consumer products. Wild Living's wild silk scarf is made from the spent cocoons of wild silk moths and domesticated silk moths farmed and harvested by forest residents.
By buying this unique product you are not only enjoying its natural benefits, you are also assisting local people to safeguard the forests it is made from.
